Choosing Baku as a venue for establishing an International Multiculturalism Centre is natural, executive director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre Azad Mammadov said, Trend reports.

He made the statement at the round table entitled "Comparative research of multiculturalism: from theory to practice of humanism" as part of the fourth Baku International Humanitarian Forum Oct. 3.

"Azerbaijan is a country with centuries-old traditions of multiculturalism and tolerance,” he said. “This is why the establishment of the International Multiculturalism Centre in Baku was expected."

“Multiculturalism is one of the directions of the state policy of Azerbaijan and the country pays special attention to it,” Mammadov said. "That's why, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the establishment of the International Multiculturalism Centre in Baku on May 15, 2014.”

Mammadov said that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation greatly supports the activity of the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre, as the fund implements projects aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue.

"Azerbaijan is open and ready for cooperating in the field of an intercultural dialogue with other countries," he said.

The fourth Baku International Humanitarian Forum is underway as part of eight round tables. The humanitarian problems, prospects and challenges of the twenty first century, taking into account the realities of a globalizing world are being discussed.

The Baku International Humanitarian Forum is an annual event of the representatives of political, scientific and cultural elite of the world community, including the well-known public figures, Nobel Prize winners in various branches of science and heads of influential international organizations.
