Meeting between Putin and Aliyev has clarified a lot (Our editorial)

A few weeks ago, long before Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan's stirring announcement about the preparation of a comprehensive agreement between Armenia and the European Union, we wrote about the secret negotiations of the personal representative in the West of the ruling Family of Armenia, the main shadow player, the son-in-law of Serzh Sargsyan, Mikael Minasyan, with the leading political circles in Brussels. There was no reaction to follow. Not only from Yerevan, but also from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Has something really changed in the mindset of the Kremlin, or maybe Moscow has decided to soften the stance regarding the once determined intentions of its CIS allies, which are looking for a promising but vague European integration? It can be seen that the confrontational doctrine of the Russian Foreign Ministry still underwent changes after the scandalous Vilnius summit, where under the pressure of Moscow, exactly on the eve of EuroMaidan in Kyiv, the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU and the agreement on an in-depth and comprehensive free trade zone with the GUAM, Armenia and Belarus was frustrated.

How else to explain the lack of reaction of the leadership of the foreign policy department of the great regional power to the successful negotiations of the son-in-law of Sargsyan, who initialed the agreement, identical in its quality and content to the one presented at the Vilnius summit? Then, in 2013, only Georgia and Moldova signed it. Kyiv did not dare, and soon choked with euroscepticism. Azerbaijan retained its traditional neutrality, but Armenia rushed into Moscow's integration projects.

Armenian soldiers in NATO tanks

Those who accepted the new conditions of old Europe were severely punished with "gunpowder borderization," or "modifying territoriality," or with a formula of confrontation between the president and the government... And now, Armenia is returning to the previous agreement with the West.

What is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia doing? Well, nothing! Russian eurosceptism left unnoticed Armenia's eurointegration. Is this really a fatal accident, or is Moscow plunged into the abyss of new problems? Sanctions are pouring onto the heads of Russians like American nuclear shells...

In early August, American soldiers appeared in Georgia. Visiting Tbilisi, the Vice-President of the US, Michael Pence, appeared under the banner of the North Atlantic Alliance with significant and loud anti-Russian statements. And when Pence voiced the alarming for the Kremlin statement about the united defensive hotline, where the United States and NATO stand firm for the interests of sovereign and united Georgia, according to Moscow's statement, the troops of Armenia stood under these very banners. Indeed, an epic picture: Armenia is a military ally of Russia, a member of the CSTO, moreover, currently heading this pro-Russian military and political organization represented by its general secretary, the plush General Khachaturov, and yet it appears under the banners of NATO, whose military equipment in Georgia is making a demonstrative sortie to the line of contact with Russian Troops!

Armenian servicemen on American tanks under the flags of NATO are coming close to the borders of South Ossetia, which is still controlled by Russian troops. Moreover, both the political leadership of Armenia and the leaders of its public opinion, after involving their armed forces in the NATO exercises in Romania and Georgia, literally unanimously declare a new long-term strategy: the activation and expansion of the participation of the Armenian army in the NATO and US exercises.

Which, do you think, reaction followed from the high cabinets of the Russian Foreign Ministry? Silence! Armenian soldiers in the NATO tanks were again not noticed. Serzh Sargsyan's frequent meetings with the NATO leadership were perceived as a friendly, ironic, awkward, annoying antics.

Shavarsh's pranks are not treason

It's not just about Brussels or Washington, or about euroscepticism in the pro-Armenian offices of Smolensk Square. Let us turn, for example, to another issue that is painful for the patriotic and powerful forces of Russia: heroization of fascism on the Eurasian continent. Russian Foreign Ministry with extreme irritation refers to the reincarnation of Bandera in mainland Ukraine, as well as to the emergence of fascist symbols on the streets of Warsaw and Prague: they are talking about historical memory, because Russian soldiers shed there blood in the struggle against the fascist scum. But when one of the iconic characters of almost the same Vlasov band, bloody Nazi machine and Soviet collaboration, Armenian General Nzhdeh is declared by Sargsyan's ruling Republican Party of Armenia a cult hero and founder of the Armenian national idea, the Russian Foreign Ministry percieves this "misunderstanding" with uncharacteristic for Mr. Lavrov indulgence.

A huge monument to the fascist and nazi collaborator is being erected in the center of Yerevan, and the Russian Foreign Ministry is urged not to hyperbolize ambiguous views on the historical legacy and strangeness of political mimicry. Russia's Foreign Ministry condemns Ukraine for the canonization of the pro-fascist leader of the OUN Bandera and, at the same time, indulges adding in Moscow to the assembly of the saints of pro-Hitler leader of the Armenian National Council Garegin Nzhdeh. So, according to the logic of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Bandera is to blame for only one thing - that he is not of Armenian blood?! Otherwise, absolute indifference to the exaltation of the image of the fascist, declared an indisputable idol by the Armenian political power, cannot be explained.

Mr. Lavrov's velvet policy towards Armenia, a selective approach to the regime of Sargsyan is carried out against the background of an all-out, large-scale anti-Russian campaign in Yerevan itself, open calls to adopt a multi-vector foreign policy concept, abandoning the program of a union state with Russia.

Anti-Russian sentiment, fueled and cultured by turretless pro-Western media controlled by Sargsyan's son-in-law, is increasing in Armenia. In Yerevan, it seems as if they have imposed an interdict on Russia - the editorials of all Armenian media are teeming with anti-Putin slogans. Increasingly and louder the speculators of the Armenian public opinion, supported by the Sargsyan administration, are calling for turning the vector of relations with Russia towards the US. Yerevan has seriously stopped believing in the future of Putin's Russia, involved in a global confrontation with the West.

And in this aspect, in the mouths of Armenian experts, with their lyrical manner of presentation, Azerbaijan appears as a military and political ally of Russia, blocking Armenia's path to NATO. Meanwhile, running ahead of the departing train is one of the leaders of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Deputy Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan, who calls openly to break the alliance with Russia, to identify new foreign policy guidelines - to establish peering relationships with all global players. The Armenian political leaders did not hide themselves in talking about the danger of an alliance with Russia as a dangerous, treacherous and unreliable partner.

On the Smolenskaya Square Shavarsh's pranks are perceived with cold discretion. For them this is not a betrayal at all, but a divergence of opinions and interpretations. No protest, no notes, no shadow of indignation and even doubt...

Azerbaijan will extradite Lapshin to Israel

But there, in the offices of the Russian Foreign Ministry, they perceive the reality in relations with "alien and foreign Azerbaijan" in a completely different way. At Smolenskaya Square, they were accustomed to approaching Baku with a magnifying optical glass, issuing any trifle that was in no way connected with the interests of the Kremlin in big diplomacy for systemic problems in dealing with a "non-negotiable partner."

Azerbaijan achieved extradition of blogger Alexander Lapshin, who later frankly and with regret recognized his insinuations and criminal actions. And then immediately the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs comes in with its rigorous and inappropriate demand for the release of a person who has broken the law. Meanwhile, Lapshin has much more to do with Israel than with Moscow, where he once strangely appeared in a vague image of a Russian citizen.

Israel understands that Lapshin touched the feelings of millions of people in a friendly country and does not crawl into trouble, trying to make amends for acute angles. And the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not want to realize this and with perseverance of more worthy use, say, in the fight against the same Nzhdeh, insists on extradition of the pro-Armenian blogger to Moscow.

Ah well? In response, Azerbaijan raises the issue of Russian citizens Dilgam Askerov and Shahbaz Guliyev, ethnic Azerbaijanis captured by the Armenian occupation army in Karabakh. Just for trying to walk in the Karabakh forest, like the venerable Lapshin. But receive in response not only disrespectful, but also in its spirit disgusting, caustic and boorish replicas of the press service of Mr. Lavrov.

What did achieve and what did receive as a result the Russian Foreign Ministry? Well, the fact that Azerbaijan will give Lapshin not to Russia, but to Israel. Maybe after that, Mr. Lavrov, who dealt a tangible blow to the reputation of his own department and suffered considerable image losses, will finally understand that it is impossible to talk with Azerbaijan in the language of ultimatums and blackmail! Lapshin's extradition to Israel will become a cold shower for Russian diplomats. However, they have long deserved this ice healing procedure!

Armenian troops are shelling from mortars peaceful villages in Azerbaijan, a terrible tragedy is happening - a two-year-old girl, an elderly woman died, an escalation is taking place on the front line, wounded people are wailing on the battlefields. And instead of natural sympathy and condolences Baku gets a new calling note - the Russian Foreign Ministry condemns Azerbaijan for violating the rights of Russian citizens of Armenian origin when entering the country. What is this, if not a public spit in the soul?!

On the day of the tragic death of civilians, Russia condemns Baku for the infringement of the rights of Russians of Armenian origin at the entrance to Azerbaijan caused by the imagination of Russian diplomats of Armenian origin?! The top of cynicism and shamelessness, the apogee of baseness, the dirty form of a diplomatic demarche in the tragic day for Azerbaijan demonstrated one thing - the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the most devilish way expressed solidarity with the occupation army... Although, how can we talk about interests of Russia in the policy of the Lavrov's department, if the ambassador to Iran, another diplomat with Armenian roots, Levan Dzhagaryan torpedoes the personal regional project of President Vladimir Putin.

In the policy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, such a strange cognitive dissonance was revealed: against a backdrop of complete idyll with anti-Russian Armenia, in relations with neutral Azerbaijan, a hard edifying tone was chosen, grossly violating the professional etiquette forgotten by Russian diplomats. It seems that Mr. Lavrov and his deputy Karasin, in charge of relations with the CIS countries, have their own vision of Russian foreign policy, which is in sharp contradiction with the Kremlin's view of coexistence with friendly Azerbaijan.

And the presidents are responsible for their words

It turns out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia not only does not contribute to the development and strengthening of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, but also under the influence of the Russian Armenians directs all its efforts to undermine the strategic partnership between Baku and Moscow.

In this difficult situation, in order to avoid new undesirable crisis situations, the ruling elites and state institutions are left to rely only on the established strong format in the relations between the two countries - personal trusting relations between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev. After the diplomatic crisis that broke out due to the fault of the Russian Foreign Ministry leadership on July 21, Putin and Aliyev held many hours of negotiations. And, according to our information, this, from the standpoint of the interests of Russia and Azerbaijan, vital meeting of the two presidents has made it possible to clarify many issues.

Apparently, it is no coincidence that right after this meeting, one of the mouthpieces of the Russian Armenians, the "Life news" TV channel - yellow Gabrielyanov's shop for the production of fake news about Azerbaijan, was closed in Moscow. It cannot be ruled out that the problem of Armenian publications in Moscow was discussed at the meeting of the presidents.

And, finally, the last thing: apparently, the heads of state did not bypass the problem of closing the leading Azerbaijani diasporal organization in Russia - the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress. The artificially contrived problem with the registration of the Congress was, of course, inspired by the multi-level Armenian community in Moscow. After all, it was a strong bridge of friendship between the two capitals, nations and states. We hope that an uninterrupted campaign against the Congrees will be a fiasco.

They raised their hand to the brainchild of Vladimir Putin and Heydar Aliyev. And Putin does not forgive betrayals. Putin does not forget his obligations and always keeps his word. As well as Ilham Aliyev. In this respect they are very similar. And these are not just words, there is an invaluable friendship behind these words...
