World pharmaceutical giant enters Azerbaijani market (Photo)


Yesterday in Sumgait, a ceremony was held of laying the foundation of the first plant for the production of medicines of solid consistency. Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev took part in the ceremony.

As it was noted at the ceremony, the products of the plant being built by the Indian company SunPharma will meet the European standards GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice). The plant will produce cardiological, nephrological, gastroenterological, diabetic, as well as other medications necessary for the Azerbaijani market.

Production of the plant, whose production capacity is 200 million tablets, 40 million capsules and 20 million ampoules per year, is also planned to be exported to CIS countries and other foreign markets.

The plant will begin operations by the end of next year.

SunPharma, with a capital of $39 billion, is India's first and the world's fifth pharmaceutical company. Its products are exported to 150 countries. The company has 49 factories located on five continents. For about 20 years SunPharma has been operating in the US market, its annual turnover in the country is over two billion dollars.
