Presidential Pardon Commission's member about Ilqar Mammadov's fate



A hearing on the case of the leader of the ReAL Movement, Ilqar Mamedov will soon be held. This was stated  by Head of the Constitution Research Foundation, member of the Commission on Pardons under the President of Azerbaijan Alimammad Nuriyev at a meeting with members of the National platform of the EU Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum.

According to him, the Working Group on Human Rights (the group is formed on a parity basis and consists of representatives of government and civil society) has accelerated work on the liberation of the arrested members of civil society.

'On the whole, civil society is actively involved in this process. This will lead to the strengthening of relations between the government and civil society, as well as creating new opportunities for cooperation. We are doing everything possible for the release of Ilqar Mammadov and Asif Yusifli. In the near future there will be a hearing on the case of Ilqar Mamedov,' said Nuriyev.

On 17 March 2013, Sheki Court of Grave Crimes sentenced to different terms of imprisonment 18 persons for participating and organising riots in Ismayilli. Leader of ReAl Ilqar Mammadov received seven years in prison. International organisations, as well as the US and EU governments insist on the release of I.Mammadov. The corresponding decision was made by the European Court of Human Rights.

In the near future Azerbaijani Supreme Court will consider an appeal in the case of convicted journalist Khadija Ismayilova.
