Russian Defence Ministry: US and Russia agreed on joint work (Updated)

Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, First Deputy Defence Minister, Army General Valery Gerasimov and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, General Joseph Dunford had a meeting in Baku, says a statement published by the Russian Defence Ministry.

Army General Valery Gerasimov and General Joseph Dunford exchanged their views on condition of the Russia-America relationship, assessments of situations in the field of international security in Europe, Middle East, North Africa and other key regions of the world.

The parties defined directions of joint work aimed to raise the safety level of military activities, decrease tensions and risks of incidents.

The sides agreed to continue contacts.

The Russian Defence Ministry has confirmed the start of military talks between the US and Russia in Baku.

'On Thursday, in the capital of Azerbaijan Baku, there began negotiations between the Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Joseph Dunford,' Vedomosti reports citing a source in the Russian Defence Ministry.

The venue was not chosen by chance, said the person close to the Defence Ministry. Dunford currently is touring the Middle East, while Azerbaijan maintains close military relations with both the US and Russia.
