Azerbaijani sailors at talks in London

A delegation of the State Maritime Administration of Azerbaijan held a meeting with the Assistant Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)/ Director of IMO's Member State Audit and Implementation Support Lawrence Barchue, Azeri Daily reports citing the press service of the administration.

During the meeting, Lawrence Barchue noted the importance of the results of the audit conducted by the International Maritime Organization from May 28 to June 6, 2017, according to which the State Maritime Administration of Azerbaijan was recognised as one of the most advanced in the world, ahead of Europe and Scandinavia and one of the leading places among 172 sea countries of the world.

Barchue noted that Azerbaijan, unlike many countries experiencing the economic crisis, remains a stable and secure state and continues to develop. He evaluated the successful audit results as an important factor for further development.

The members of the Azerbaijani delegation noted that all the successes in this sphere were achieved thanks to the attention and concern of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev about the sailors. As a result of the president's policy, the authority of Azerbaijan on the international arena grows from year to year, the members of the delegation stressed.

During the meeting, it was stressed that further measures to improve maritime legislation, increase the effectiveness of the maritime safety system, as well as measures to ensure compliance of maritime transport with the requirements of the Convention of the International Maritime Organization will continue in the future. Members of the Azerbaijani delegation said that new projects are being prepared in these areas, after implementation of which the maritime sphere will be further developed.

During the meeting, the parties agreed on conducting additional measures for mutual cooperation, as well as other issues.
