Germany: 'Nagorno-Karabakh region is part of Azerbaijan'

The parliamentary faction of the right-wing radical party AfD ('Alternative for Germany') sent a small request to the government of the Federal Republic of Germany on the topic of German-Armenian relations. The request also included questions on Nagorno-Karabakh, reports Azeri Daily.

In the introductory part of the response of the German government to the request, it is noted that 'the German government emphasises that the term 'German-Armenian relations' should be understood as relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Armenia. The Government of the Federal Republic considers the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven adjacent regions to be part of Azerbaijan. The government of Germany does not recognise the separatist so-called 'Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.'

In response to the relevant points of the request (the situation with human rights, freedom of the press, minorities in Nagorno-Karabakh, the number of Germans living there, etc.), the government limited itself to referring to this note.

In addition, to the question 'How does the German government assess the international legal status of Nagorno-Karabakh?' the German government replied: 'The Nagorno-Karabakh region is part of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.'
