Putin and Lukashenko argued at EAEU meeting

Presidents of the Russian Federation and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko discussed issues of gas pricing during a meeting of the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union in St Petersburg, Interfax reports.

Lukashenko drew attention to the different conditions for Belarusian gas consumers, for whom fuel costs $130 per thousand cubic metres, and for Russian $70 (in the neighbouring Smolensk region).

Putin replied that if Belarus had a gas market price, it would be almost $200 per thousand cubic metres, not $130.

The Russian leader proposed to continue the discussion on gas prices later in private.
