State Duma deputy in support of Ilham Aliyev: 'Russia must give an adequate answer'

Today at the summit of the heads of state of the CIS, the speech of President Ilham Aliyev about the trend of glorification of Nazi criminals in Armenia caused a wide resonance among the Russian public, in particular the Russian State Duma.

Since the opening of the monument to the Nazi criminal Garegin Nzhdeh in the centre of Yerevan, the Russian political leadership, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kremlin, the State Duma, as well as the Russian public have been uncompromisingly fighting the Armenian leadership, urging both the old authorities in the face of Sargsyan and the new leaders of the revolutionary government to dismantle the statue of a bloody killer responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.

At the plenary meeting of the State Duma of Russia, Deputy Dmitry Savelyev also supported the President of Azerbaijan.

Azeri Daiy presents to the attention of readers the speech of the parliamentarian:

'For decades, our people has rightly considered itself a liberating people. It was the Russian troops that walked thousands of kilometres on foot, knocking out the Nazis from almost every European city, right up to Berlin. Not so many historical years have passed, and how do they answer us? Large-scale demolitions of the Soviet soldier-liberator monuments. The West does not need an uncomfortable memory of the valiant feat of the Soviet people, at what price this was achieved by our ancestors. But a holy place does not remain empty.

A monument to Geregin Nzhdeh was erected in Armenia! There are official papers proving that he was a protege of the Nazis - recruited agents for sabotage in the rear of the Red Army in Bulgaria. And they built a monument to him. I experienced greater indignation only when I found out that the Nzhdeh memorial was also erected in Krasnodar Armavir. In my opinion, this should be qualified as a criminal offence - rehabilitation of Nazism - and nothing else. And according to Russian and international laws. Monuments to Nzhdeh are glorification of the Nazi criminal. There can be no other opinions. If Armenia needs a hero, why don't they remember Baghramyan, the Marshal of the Soviet Union and twice Hero of the Soviet Union, who defeated the Nazis on the South-Western Front and then headed the Belarusian Front?Armenia has outstanding heroes who played a serious role in the approach of the Great Victory, but why extremely doubtful figures like Nzhdeh are dragged to the pedestal. This makes you think about the real background of such things. And Russia must give an adequate response to such phenomena.'
