29 new patients with coronavirus in Azerbaijan: 2nd patient dies



In Azerbaijan, 29 new cases of coronavirus were detected, one of the patients died, the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers informs.

A citizen of Azerbaijan (born 1961), who returned from Turkey on 12 March, was admitted to a special treatment hospital with high fever and difficulty with breathing. Examination of the patient revealed chronic bronchitis. Tests for coronavirus gave a positive result.

Rehabilitation measures taken to stabilise the patient's condition have not yielded results. At present, his relatives and people with whom the patient has contacted are being identified. All of them are quarantined.

At the same time, five people with coronavirus in the special treatment hospital recovered and were allowed to go home.

Currently, in special treatment hospitals under the supervision of doctors are 104 patients with coronavirus. The condition of five of them is assessed as serious, 9 - of moderate severity, the condition of the rest is stable.

Over the past period, 20,000 tests were conducted to identify patients with coronavirus in Azerbaijan.

Currently, cases of coronavirus infection in Azerbaijan are detected among people who arrived in the country from abroad, and by the fact of transmission of the infection to each other within the country. In addition, cases of infection among people in various regions of the country have already begun to be recorded.

In this regard, the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers urges people to observe measures of self-isolation, leave home only when absolutely necessary, not visit crowded places and observe a special quarantine regime.

Recall that in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection and the damage that it can cause, a special quarantine regime was announced in Azerbaijan from 24 March to 20 April. According to the rules of the special regime, people over 65 are forbidden to leave their homes; social services are provided to single people of this age category. Entrance and exit was restricted in the cities of Baku and Sumgayit, as well as in the Absheron district, with the exception of special vehicles, including ambulances, emergency recovery and rescue services, as well as trucks. It is forbidden for citizens to gather in groups of more than 10 people in public places, including streets, boulevards, parks and other places.

The headquarters calls on citizens to comply with the requirements and recommendations of the World Health Organisation and the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers, taking into account the global pandemic and the spread of the virus.
