Ambassador of Serbia summoned to Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry (After our article)

Charge d'Affaires of Serbia in Azerbaijan Danica Veinovic was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where she met with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Azeri Daily.

At the meeting, Khalaf Khalafov said that according to reliable and confirmed information, a large number of weapons, including mortars, were sent from Serbia to Armenia.

Recall that Haqqin.Az Portal and Azeri Daily as its English version published an article about how several days before the attack and during the height of hostilities in the direction of Tovuz, a large batch of mortar ammunition of different calibres had been delivered from Serbia through Georgia to Armenia. These facts have caused serious concern and just outrage of the Azerbaijani side.

Khalaf Khalafov noted that during the attacks of the Armenian armed forces in the Tovuz direction of the border, mortars of various calibres were mainly used. The border settlements of Azerbaijan, the military positions of the Azerbaijani troops were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling, in the course of suppressing the treacherous attacks of the Armenian armed forces, an Azerbaijani general, 10 military servicemen and one civilian were killed.

Deputy minister noted that there are strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia, in 2013 a declaration of friendship and strategic partnership was signed at the level of the heads of the two states, and in 2018 a joint action plan for strategic partnership was signed.

These documents noted that Azerbaijan and Serbia recognise each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Khalaf Khalafov said that Azerbaijan, remaining committed to the strategic partnership between the two countries, in difficult times always extended a helping hand to Serbia, and this was repeatedly noted with gratitude by the leadership of Serbia. He also said that Azerbaijan has always demonstrated a consistent position on the issue of the territorial integrity of Serbia.

Deputy minister stressed that the issue of arms supplies to Armenia has always been a delicate issue, including on the agenda of our bilateral relations.

In this regard, it was stated that the unfriendly step of the Serbian side in support of the aggressive policy of Armenia and the ongoing aggression against the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan causes deep regret and bitter disappointment among the Azerbaijani people and leadership. Khalaf Khalafov emphasised that such unfriendly actions undermine friendly relations and strategic partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia and cast a shadow on the existing high level of mutual trust.

Deputy minister, pointing out the cunning goals of the military provocation of Armenia in the South Caucasus, which destabilises the situation and undermines security in the region, said that Azerbaijan is waiting for an explanation from the Republic of Serbia and the elimination of the reasons for such actions.

Charge d'Affaires of Serbia in Azerbaijan Danica Veinovic stated that she did not have information on these issues, promised to transfer this information to the Serbian side, expressed regret over the incident and expressed hope that they would not harm the Serbian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership and friendship.
