Azerbaijan invited to G20 Rome summit


Azerbaijan has received an invitation to participate in the G20 summit, which is chaired by Italy in 2021. Report informs with reference to IPS, the event will be held in Rome on October 30-31.

At the moment, 38 countries have been invited to participate in the summit: from Azerbaijan to Chad, from Denmark to Laos, from Sweden to Zimbabwe. Representatives of the UN, EU and major international monetary and financial institutions are also invited to the meetings.

During the Italian presidency in the group of leading economic powers (they account for 60% of the world's population and 80% of world GDP), tasks were identified such as ensuring sustainable and equitable development, protecting the environment, as well as countering new threats, including such like sanitary crises. The motto of the Italian presidency is 'People, Planet, Prosperity.'

The presidency agenda is structured in 10 specialised meetings such as finance (in Venice, July 9-10); innovation and research (in Trieste, 5-8 August); environment, climate, energy (in Naples, July 22), health (in Rome, September 5-6), agriculture (in Florence, September 19-20), etc. In addition to these 10 specialised meetings, there will be 8 interaction groups that will move from business to civil society, youth, etc. Italy hopes that all events will be possible to be held in person.

Recall that the permanent members of the G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, US and EU.
