Ilham Aliyev warned officials: 'You'll not get off with just fine'

'I warned both officials and private companies that trees must not be cut down. Trees can be moved to another location, in accordance with the decision of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, when implementing projects of national importance,' President Ilham Aliyev said today in the course of acquaintance with the conditions created in the new park on Metbuat Avenue in Yasamal district of Baku, informs the official website of the head of state.

'When I learned about the cutting down of trees on Metbuat Avenue, I immediately sent here the head of the Baku Executive Authority. As a result of the measures taken, a beautiful place for recreation was created on this place,' the head of state noted.

'If high-rise buildings were built here, this would have created problems for residents of nearby houses. Therefore in this area of the city a park has been laid down, and I believe that this is a very important event.

Once again I want to say that this park has its own history, and for all the organisations, entrepreneurs and companies, cutting trees will not end only with a fine,' the head of state stressed.

Recall that earlier information about the demolition of the 'Hunter's House' and the cutting of trees on Metbuat Avenue caused widespread public discontent. At the direction of President Ilham Aliyev, construction was suspended.

A construction company that cut down trees was fined 130 000 manats, a criminal case was initiated against it.
