Ilham Aliyev about resuming negotiations on Karabakh

'The negotiation process for the peaceful settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is resumed without any preconditions,' Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said yesterday at the expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, informs the press-service of the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev accused Armenia of torpedoing the negotiation process for the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. According to him, Armenia did everything in its power to frustrate the negotiations, inventing various pretexts to prevent the resumption of negotiations, and put forward various conditions.

'However, I immediately stated that none of the conditions would be accepted. With the advancement of such conditions, Armenia has put itself in a foolish position and is now forced to abandon such a policy,' said the president.

Ilham Aliyev added that the resumption of the negotiation process is not some favour to Azerbaijan.

'Armenia once again disgraced itself before the world community, and the resumption of negotiations is not a favour for us. Their hysterical statements and fearful appeals to other countries openly demonstrate that they are not able to confront us in battle,' the head of state underlined, pointing out the April events of 2016.

The situation on the front line shows that we now have the best positions. Of course, Armenia should be more interested in resuming negotiations. Because otherwise they will suffer a deplorable result,' said Ilham Aliyev.

The president stressed that the mediators of the negotiation process are eager for its resumption. 'And we, of course, support this. Therefore, I would like to say once again that despite the fact that this year it was not possible to achieve real results in this direction, Armenia once again appeared before the world community as a pitiful, powerless, dependent country,' said the head of the Azerbaijani state.
