President Ilham Aliyev: 'Azerbaijan will purchase new types of weapons' (Updated, Photo)

'According to the world rating, Azerbaijani army is one of the most powerful armies in the world. Azerbaijan's military power has increased,' said President Ilham Aliyev at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The head of state also noted that in this direction measures would be taken and new types of weapons purchased.

Touching upon the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Ilham Aliyev noted that the international community recognises Nagorno-Karabakh as an inalienable territory of Azerbaijan.

Noting the importance of the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict only within the territorial integrity of our country, the head of state said that Azerbaijan's fair position on the settlement of this conflict is based on international law.

The president also touched upon the issue of socio-economic development, noting that in 2017 Azerbaijan developed rapidly and successfully.

'If we take into account the complex geopolitical situation in the world, the results achieved by the country deserve high assessment. All this was achieved thanks to stability. The basis of stability is the unity of the people and government, popular support. In 2017, which can be called a year of profound economic reforms, great progress was made in the economic sphere. International financial institutions highly appreciated the processes going on in Azerbaijan,' he said.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has chaired the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socioeconomic development of 2017 and objectives for the future, informs the press-service of the head of state.

The head of state made an opening speech at the event.

Speakers at the meeting included Azerbaijan's Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslumov, and Chairman of Azerkosmos Open Joint Stock Company Rashad Nabiyev.

President Ilham Aliyev then made a closing speech.
