Elmar Mammadyarov on signing comprehensive agreement with EU

'Dialogue between Azerbaijan and the European Union has long been based on equality and mutually beneficial cooperation between the parties,' Elmar Mammadyarov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, said in an interview with RIA Novosti when answering the question about the process under the new EU-Azerbaijan agreement.

According to the minister, the contacts held recently in Brussels with the leadership of the European Union demonstrated the correctness and justification of this approach.

'The process is developing in the right direction and will lead us to the signing of a comprehensive agreement between two equal partners - Azerbaijan and the European Union,' said Elmar Mammadyarov.

Speaking about the visa-free regime between Azerbaijan and the European Union, Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan already has an effective mechanism of simplified visa issuance with the EU. Interaction in this sphere is successfully developing and will reach a level that will meet the interests of both sides, the minister said.

'The foreign policy of Azerbaijan does not come from the principle of 'or-or,' but has a balanced, multi-vector and inclusive character. We are confident that following this course will continue to bear fruit and will serve the good of our people and the region as a whole,' said the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, answering the question whether Azerbaijan will continue to pursue a balanced foreign policy or will make a choice in favour of some concrete political, economic bloc.
