Ilham Aliyev: 'Built stations do not work!'

'All issues envisaged at the end of the year in connection with infrastructure projects, find their solution. Gasification reached 94%. Our goal was 95%, and by the end of the year we will reach it. By the end of the year, it is planned to commission the Shimal-2 power station,' said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in his closing speech at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socio-economic development in the first nine months of 2018 and the tasks ahead, informs the Press-Service of the Azerbaijani Presidency.

The head of state added that this will give the power system of Azerbaijan an additional 400 megawatts of electricity.

'At the same time, serious reforms are being carried out in our energy system and research is being conducted. The reasons for the accident that took place in the summer were fully investigated and appropriate administrative measures taken. Very serious steps have been taken in connection with the investment and technical condition of our energy industry. International consultants are involved in this work.

This year and next, we will direct additional funds to this area in order to fully ensure the complete stability of substations and transmission lines, as well as the creation of generation capacities. At the same time, additional steps will be taken to increase the generation capacity of existing stations. Because the stations built in due time do not work at full capacity. I look at the reports presented to me, 80 megawatts are envisaged, and only 15 megawatts work. They were used so ineffectively that some of them lost their potential. We will restore them. Naturally, it will take some time. But in this area there must be a completely new approach. We are still exporting electricity and we have enough potential. In the future, we will increase our exports taking into account our own perspectives,' he said.
