Yesterday, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Novruz Mammadov gave an interview to Space TV, where he spoke for the first time about how he had been appointed to this position. According to Novruz Mammadov, for him this appointment was unexpected.

'I could have never imagined that such an offer could come to me. Therefore, it was very unexpected,' said Novruz Mammadov.

According to him, the issue of the appointment of the prime minister was discussed after the early presidential election in April 2018.

'We were all satisfied with this election. Indeed, it went very well. After the election, President Ilham Aliyev told me that he was nominating me for the position of the prime minister. The head of state said that there were several candidates, and I among them. Honestly, these words calmed me a little. Then we had another such conversation, the President told me to think. I was in thoughts. I thought it was a great trust, and how do I justify it? Then the President called me and said that I was going to the Milli Majlis tomorrow, and that was that. I didn't say anything else. This is a very great trust and responsibility,' said Novruz Mammadov.

The prime minister called on all those in office to be responsible.

'The most important thing in the world is to know the truth. If the head of state appoints me to some position, that means he believes in me and knows that I will justify the trust. The President wants Azerbaijan to become a strong and modern state. We have come a long way in this direction. But despite this, very complex processes are taking place in the international arena. We must maintain our sovereignty and independence, as well as protect our national interests. To do this, we must strengthen our state. We must do this together. Whatever state agency or service I lead, I must work with love for the Motherland,' said Novruz Mammadov.
