Azerbaijani minister at 8th meeting of Asian Energy Ministers (Photo)


Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov represented Azerbaijan at the 8th meeting of Asian Energy Ministers in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi, the press-service of the ministry informs.

The minister of energy spoke on the theme 'The Role of New Technologies for Competitive and Productive Energy.' Stressing that technologies in the global energy system have led to great changes, the minister shared his experience of introducing technological innovations in the energy sector of Azerbaijan. Minister Parviz Shahbazov spoke about the reforms on sustainable development of Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources and the liberalisation of the energy sector.

'92% of the country's electricity comes from traditional energy - natural gas. On the one hand, measures are being taken to achieve high results at natural gas power plants using the latest technologies, increase the stations' efficiency, and improve energy efficiency. On the other hand, we strive to increase the share of renewable energy in electricity production, given that carbon emissions are mainly generated by the electricity sector,' the minister said.

In his speech, the minister noted that Azerbaijan is open for international cooperation in the field of renewable energy.
