Azerbaijani FM on tough negotiations with Armenian counterpart

The first step in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be the elimination of its main consequences. According to Trend agency, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said this at the 26th meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers in Bratislava (Slovakia).

Azerbaijani FM spoke about the meeting yesterday with his Armenian counterpart Mnatsakanyan with the participation of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

'Yesterday, a meeting with my Armenian colleague lasted about three and a half hours. These were pretty tough negotiations. Unfortunately, we still have unresolved issues. What we discussed with the OSCE Minsk Group is a phased approach to resolving the conflict. Of course, the first step should be the elimination of the main consequences of the conflict, that is, ensuring the immediate, absolute and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh region and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as recorded in the four resolutions of the UN Security Council,' said Mammadyarov.
