Ilham Aliyev: 'Small child walked to school on foot from Pirshagi to Kurdakhani. Can you imagine?'

'When Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Shrine of Pirhasan last year, members of the same family approached her and invited her to Kurdakhani settlement. Meanwhile, they said that in Kurdakhani there were a lot of problems, roads and the school were in poor condition.' As reports Azeri Daily Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said this at a ceremony on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the prominent oil scientist, First Vice-President of SOCAR, Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh.

The head of state noted that Mehriban Aliyeva accepted the invitation and went to the settlement of Kurdakhani, after which most of the problems found their solution there.

'A new park was laid in Kurdakhani, all roads were repaired, a new school was built. After that, in a conversation, you once said that you studied at a school in the settlement of Kurdakhani as a child. And I was surprised because I know that you are from Pirshagi. I then asked why had you been going to Kurdakhani when there had been a school in Pirshagi too. And I remember that you said you had been going to school in Kurdakhani because the teachers were better there. Right? And although these villages are located in the neighbourhood, then the roads were in terrible condition. I was surprised how hard it was for a small child. I don’t know if there was a transport then or not. Did you ride the bus?' Ilham Aliyev asked the hero of the day.

Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh replied that he was getting to school on foot.

'On foot? Imagine that he walked every day from Pirschagi to Kurdakhani to gain knowledge. That is, even then it was clear that a great future awaited you. And then you shared your knowledge with young people. At the same time, you are a great scientist, very active as a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. You have a lot of scientific work based on your experience. That is, this is not just a theory. Your experience is also there. Both in Soviet times and in the period of independence. Therefore, you have received the highest awards both in Soviet times and during the period of independence,' said the head of state.
