Ilham Aliyev: 'Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood is example for world'

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in connection with the 102nd anniversary of the liberation of Baku from occupation, Azerbaijan State News Agency informs.

'Today we are celebrating the 102nd anniversary of the liberation of Baku from occupation. Despite the difficulties of that period, brotherly Turkey provided assistance to Azerbaijan. Arriving in Azerbaijan, the Caucasian Islamic Army under the leadership of Nuru Pasha joined the fight. Having passed the glorious military path from Ganja to Baku, the Caucasian Islamic Army, together with the newly created National Army of Azerbaijan and volunteers, liberated Baku from the Armenian and Bolshevik occupation. With deep respect, I honour the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives on this path. Their bright memory eternally lives in our hearts,' says the letter of the Azerbaijani president.

The head of state stressed that September 15 is an extremely significant day for the Azerbaijani people. It was on this day that Baku was liberated from occupation and for the first time declared the capital of the independent Azerbaijan state. After this historic victory, the triumphal march of the Caucasian Islamic Army and the National Army of Azerbaijan was greeted with great enthusiasm and joy by the residents of Baku.

'Two years ago, the same enthusiasm and joy reigned in the streets of Baku again. Together with you, we observed the participation of Azerbaijani and Turkish soldiers in the military parade on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from occupation. Undoubtedly, this historic event will forever remain in the memory,' the letter of the President of Azerbaijan says.

Ilham Aliyev noted that today the Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood and friendship are an example for the whole world. The fraternal Turkish Republic has demonstrated a decisive stance against the military provocation of Armenia against Azerbaijan on July 12.

'The people of Azerbaijan highly appreciate your unambiguous statements in connection with the Tovuz events. Azerbaijan is also always close to fraternal Turkey and in all matters it demonstrates its support without hesitation. The Azerbaijan-Turkey strategic alliance and partnership is an important factor ensuring peace and security in the region, contributing to the development of cooperation.

The relations between our fraternal and friendly countries and peoples are indeed successfully developing and expanding in all spheres in accordance with the slogan of the great leader Heydar Aliyev 'One nation, two states,' the letter of the Azerbaijani president says.

Ilham Aliyev also wished the brotherly people of Turkey permanent well-being and prosperity.
