Ilham Aliyev: Russia doesn't supply weapons to Armenia (And Iran closed its space)

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated that Armenia is importing weapons into the country through contraband. In his words, Iran and Georgia, as well as Russia, do not officially supply weapons to Armenia.

'We have no information that weapons are being supplied to Armenia from Iran. On the contrary, Iran and Georgia have closed their airspace and land borders for military transport to Armenia. According to the information we have, weapons are supplied to Armenia by smuggling routes - civilian and cargo planes,' Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Turkish A Haber TV channel, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.

Ilham Aliyev noted that Armenia recently purchased an IL-76 aircraft, which is used to transport mercenaries and contraband weapons.

'This plane, worth $30-40 million, was purchased by Armenian businessmen living in Russia - Karapetyan, Abrahamyan and others. They transport Armenians from Russia to Karabakh as mercenaries. At the same time, weapons are also transported - anti-tank missile systems (ATGM) 'Kornet' and 'Konkurs,' portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS) 'Igla' and various equipment. Everything is transported under the guise of civilian cargo,' said Ilham Aliyev.

The head of state said that Azerbaijan has already applied to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to prevent this.

'This is an international crime, and the transportation of contraband weapons to Armenia is unacceptable. The Russian authorities also informed us that Russia does not supply weapons to Armenia, therefore we believe that the weapons are supplied through smuggling by Russian businessmen of Armenian origin,' Ilham Aliyev stressed.
