Aliyev told Putin that Azerbaijan will deepen relations with Russia (Video, Photo, Updated)


Azerbaijan is committed to raising the level of bilateral relations with Russia in all directions, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in Sochi at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

'We are very pleased with the dynamics of bilateral relations. We have resolved a lot of issues in a bilateral format, and today we characterise our relations as relations of strategic partners. This is not just a phrase, it really is so. We are committed to raising the level of our relations in all areas,' said Ilham Aliyev.

The head of the Azerbaijani state stressed that bilateral trade is growing, there is a very great mutual interest in economic cooperation, including among business circles: 'Of course, we are very pleased that relations cover many areas. We are currently implementing 7 road-maps in almost the overwhelming majority of spheres -- economy, transport, humanitarian cooperation.'

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia is growing, there is an economic interest of business circles. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said this at a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin said that the volume of trade between the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan, despite the coronavirus pandemic, increased by 11%. 'Our strategic partnership is developing very successfully. Putin also thanked Ilham Aliyev for supporting the Russian language in Azerbaijan: 'I want to thank you for the attention you pay to the development of the Russian language, maintaining it -- 304 schools or even more... 340 teach Russian, 34% of Azerbaijani schoolchildren study in one way or another in Russian.'

Bilateral negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev began in Sochi. This was announced to reporters on Friday by the Spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

'President Putin has just begun a conversation with Azerbaijani President Aliyev in Sochi. At the end, we will expect a meeting between Putin, Aliyev and [Armenian Prime Minister Nikol] Pashinyan,' TASS quotes Peskov as saying.

After that, Putin will have a separate conversation with Pashinyan, said the Kremlin spokesman.
