The twenty-thousand strong grouping of the rapid reaction forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) will be ready to render military assistance to Armenia, if such decision is taken by the supreme body of the organisation, its Council, said the Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov yesterday at the meeting with journalists, Azeri Daily reports with reference to the Armenian editorial office of Radio Liberty.

According to information, Colonel-General Sidorov is in Armenia to participate in the exercises of the bloc. On the eve at the 'Bagramyan' training ground, the joint two-day military intelligence exercises of the CSTO member states 'Search-2017' were completed, within which the activities of reconnaissance units and special purpose units of member countries were worked out.

'As for the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, in accordance with the organisation's charter and other regulatory documents, the forces of the organisation are designed to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member state of the organisation. This happens according to the appeal of the state leadership, and the decision is made by the Collective Security Council.

If one of the states needs real help, then the forces of the collective forces will be ready to come and help it to fulfil the task, which is defined in the charter, in the decision of the Collective Security Council. And Armenia should have no doubts. We have more than 20,000 highly trained servicemen. Basically, these are servicemen of special purpose units. There are mountain rifle units, there are airborne assault units, airborne paratroopers formations, units and subunits that are capable of performing any task assigned to them,' said General Sidorov.

Note: from October 9 to October 13, joint exercises 'Interaction' with the participation of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces and the United Group of Armed Forces of Armenia and Russia will be held in Armenia.
