Kocharyan remained behind bars

The Court of Appeal of Armenia left the former president of the country Robert Kocharyan under arrest, prosecutor Vahagn Muradyan told reporters today, RIA Novosti reports.

'The Court of Appeal rejected Kocharyan's advocate's petition and upheld the decision of the court of first instance to arrest him,' said Muradyan.

Earlier, the lawyer of the ex-president Ruben Sahakyan told reporters that the defence demanded his release from the Court of Appeal. According to him, the president is inviolable and there is no sound evidence to support his guilt.

It should be noted that the former President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan was charged with overthrowing the constitutional order in the criminal case on dispersing the protest actions on March 1, 2008, during which ten people were killed and about 200 were injured.
