Georgia may refuse Azerbaijani gas (Minister's statement)

The Georgian government is negotiating with Gazprom on the extension of the expired contract. What kind of conditions are being discussed by Tbilisi and Moscow is unknown. Economy Minister Giorgi Kobulia said that Georgia is thinking about diversifying natural gas suppliers, Russian media reports.

'We don't want a monopoly situation, and Azerbaijan was the only supplier. And we want Azerbaijan to be, but also to get some gas from Russia. Our population and our companies will benefit greatly from this. There will be minimal competition, and this will affect prices,' the official said.

According to Kobulia, in the process of signing an agreement with Gazprom, issues such as energy independence and energy security will be taken into account. Nevertheless, in his opinion, if Georgia receives a little more gas from Russia, diversification will be strengthened in the local market.
