Kocharyan's supporters again took to streets of Yerevan

About two hundred supporters of ex-President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, who was arrested on charges of overthrowing the constitutional order in 2008, staged a protest rally near the office of the country's ombudsman demanding the immediate release of the former head of the republic, TASS correspondent reports.

'We claim that President Kocharyan is a political prisoner and is illegally detained. Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan should declare Kocharyan a political prisoner and protect his rights. President Kocharyan should be released immediately,' said one of the initiators of the protest rally, ex-MP Gagik Baghdasaryan.

Supporters of the arrested former head of the republic handed over a letter of demand to the administration of the ombudsman.

On May 18, the judge of the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan, David Grigoryan, decided to change the preventive measure in the form of an arrest against Kocharyan under the personal guarantee of the Karabakh separatists Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan. After that, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia appealed the decision to the Court of Appeal, which on June 25 decided to re-arrest the ex-head of the country.
