Official Baku: Armenia will indemnify Azerbaijan for damages

Armenia, which is carrying out illegal activities in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent areas, flagrantly violating international law, including international humanitarian law and human rights, the legislation of Azerbaijan, as well as its individuals and legal entities, other persons involved in illegal activities in occupied territories of Azerbaijan bear administrative and legal responsibility. This is said in a joint statement by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and Azerkosmos OJSC.

'As a result of monitoring the illegal activities of the Armenian side in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan from the Azersky satellite, Azerkosmos OJSC found that 0.46 hectares of forest were cut down in the city of Shusha around Isabulagi. Using satellite imagery, it was established that work is underway to plan new construction on an area of 0.85 hectares,' says the joint statement.

'As is known, as a result of the illegal activities of Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, including environmental terror, forest lands are being degraded at an accelerated pace, new infrastructure is being created in their place, and illegal exploitation of natural resources is being carried out.

Using Azersky's photographs, it was found that along with the illegal exploitation of gold mines in the occupied Kalbajar region, geological exploration, mining and construction of new infrastructure elements (roads, buildings, structures, etc.) are carried out on an area of 740 hectares of the Damirli mine deposit in the Terter region. Also during the monitoring, continued illegal exploitation of agricultural fields in the occupied territories was observed, large-scale fires were recorded. Only in the Fuzuli district an area of 15 thousand hectares was burnt.

As one can see, Armenia continues illegal activities in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, including exploitation and plunder of natural resources, changing social, economic and transport infrastructures, including agriculture and water reserves, deforestation, fires, and other acts that damage the environment. This illegal activity is aimed at the continuation and consolidation of the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding areas, the annexation of our territories and the prevention of the return of Azerbaijani IDPs to their homes.

Armenia should understand that the military occupation of Azerbaijani territories is temporary, and the return of these lands to Azerbaijan's control is inevitable. The damage caused by the aggressor to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan will be calculated through international mechanisms. Armenia will compensate Azerbaijan for the damage and legally be liable for all illegal acts,' the statement says.
