Lavrov's loud statement in Baku: 'There is an opportunity for a compromise peace between Baku and Yerevan'

'There is an opportunity for achieving a compromise in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.' This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press-conference following his meeting with the Azerbaijani counterpart in Baku, reports the Vestnik Kavkaza.

'We have an understanding that there are opportunities to reach a compromise. The matter is not simple, the conflict is one of the longest in the space of the former Soviet Union, but we are grateful to our Azerbaijani friends for the fact that the ideas, which Russia has put forward both bilaterally and as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, are finding understanding. Today's and yesterday's contacts made it possible to better understand how to try to move on. I hope that there will be a result,' he said.

The Russian minister spoke about his meeting with the President of Azerbaijan that took place on the eve. ''We had a very rich, detailed conversation with President Ilham Aliyev, the meeting confirmed that our relations are not just strategic partnership, they are gaining more and more trusting qualities. We really appreciate that our presidents set the tone for all contacts between the ministries and parliaments. We feel this focus in our work and are trying to meet the bar set by our presidents,' the diplomat said.
