Press Council appealed to State Security Service: 'Elmar Huseynov's killers must be identified and punished'


The Press Council of Azerbaijan has sent an appeal to the State Security Service (SSS) of the country to investigate the murder of journalist Elmar Huseynov and identify and bring those responsible to justice, Report.az informs.

'The Council has held a conference devoted to the World Press Freedom Day, May 3, on the topic 'Freedom of the Press: Human Nature and Realities of Azerbaijan.'

At the event, which was attended by media leaders, media experts and representatives of journalistic associations, there was noted the need to speed up the investigation of the murder of Elmar Huseynov, the editor-in-chief of the Monitor magazine, that had happened on March 2, 2005, the early identification and punishment of the perpetrators,' reads the statement.

The appeal addressed to Colonel-General Madat Guliyev, Chief of the State Security Service, expressed hope for a sensitive attitude to the issue that is important for the journalism of the country.
