Iran's Foreign Minister calls on Azerbaijan to be friends again

'Iran and Azerbaijan have historical, cultural and religious ties, therefore, at the political level, any issues should be resolved as soon as possible in order to prevent a deterioration in relations due to statements by some media,' Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian said in an interview with the Rossiya TV channel.

The Iranian FM noted that all countries in the region should solve their problems themselves and prevent interference from foreign states.

Abdollahian also said that during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York he had met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and expressed concerns about a possible change in the geopolitics of the region, adding that the meeting had taken place in a 'friendly and sincere atmosphere.'

At the end of the interview, the Iranian minister expressed hope for the development of relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia, urging the countries to focus on 'constructive cooperation.'
