Armenia expects the establishment of diplomatic relations with Turkey and the opening of borders as a result of a dialogue with the participation of special representatives of the two countries. On the eve of the first meeting of the special representatives of Turkey and Armenia, scheduled for January 14, the Spokesman for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vahan Hunanyan told Armenpress about this.

In his words, Armenia's expectations from this dialogue are the same as in the early 1990s.

'We hope that as a result of the process, diplomatic relations will be established between Armenia and Turkey, and the border between the two countries will be opened,' he said.

Hunanyan also stated that the meeting of the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey in Moscow will be held with the Russian side.

'In fact, this first meeting will be of a cognitive nature. It is difficult to expect that as a result of one meeting it will be possible to achieve tangible results, but it will launch the process,' the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

It should be noted that Armenia and Turkey have appointed special representatives for the normalisation of relations between the countries. Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan will be the special representative from Armenia. Ankara's special representative is the former Turkish Ambassador to Washington Serdar Kilic.
