Macron on strengthening bilateral relations with Baku

Official Paris intends to strengthen bilateral relations with Baku and is ready to contribute to the establishment of a lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, French President Emmanuel Macron said in his congratulations on the Republic Day sent to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the press-service of the head of the Azerbaijani state reported.

'I know your personal commitment to the quality of our bilateral relations. I share this with you and I want us to be able to use the enormous potential for development together, especially in the economic, cultural and educational spheres,' says Macron.

He also stressed the need to continue work to create a sustainable peace in the South Caucasus.

At the same time, Macron reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful solution to the issue of delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. 'Six months after the signing of the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, which ended the deadly hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, it is necessary to continue deep work to create conditions for a lasting peace. This means, in particular, the implementation of the peaceful delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the reunification of prisoners of war with their relatives,' said Macron.

The French President also recommended to simplify the organisation of the UNESCO mission 'for the further preservation of all heritage in the region.'

Macron, in his congratulations, assured Ilham Aliyev that Paris will fulfil all its obligations as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group to establish high-level dialogue under the auspices of France, and that 'a just, lasting peace and common prosperity can be achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia.'
