At the peak of confrontation, Iran's FM called Azerbaijani counterpart



Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian called Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

According to IRNA, in a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahian stressed that the two countries must prevent misunderstandings in relations and that it is advisable for them to continue their relations in the right and growing direction.

In the telephone conversation, Abdollahian and Bayramov discussed the latest developments in bilateral relations.

Stressing the need for mutual respect of7 independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, the Iranian Foreign Minister added: 'Tehran and Baku have long-standing relations.'

For its part, the press-service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported that the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The parties noted the perniciousness of the rhetoric observed recently, which does not correspond to the level of friendly relations between the two countries, as well as the need to resolve all disagreements through dialogue. The ministers stressed the importance of adhering to the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries. It was decided that the issues of transit traffic through Azerbaijan will be discussed by the relevant state structures.

Recall that the call from Tehran to Baku came in the midst of tensions and confrontation between the two countries, caused by the provocative actions of the Iranian armed forces on the border with Azerbaijan, as well as the unfolded propaganda campaign against Azerbaijan and its leader.
