Ilham Aliyev is pleased with Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh, but...

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with the Italian La Repubblica, expressed satisfaction with the activities of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh: 'The war ended about a year ago, and Russian peacekeepers are deployed in Azerbaijan, in the Karabakh region. The situation during this period has been stable, with the exception of a few minor incidents, and we are generally satisfied,' Azeri Daily quotes the Azerbaijani leader as saying.

At the same time, the head of the Azerbaijani state expressed the hope that the Russian side would prevent the illegal entry of foreign citizens into Karabakh: 'In particular, there is a question about foreigners who must obtain permission from Azerbaijan to visit Azerbaijani territories that are in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers,' said Ilham Aliyev.

'We informed the Russian authorities and the Russian Defence Ministry about this, so that such facts should not happen again. These and some other issues need to be resolved. However, now we are generally satisfied with the work of the peacekeepers,' Aliyev stressed.
