Ilham Aliyev wrote to Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This is reported by the press-service of the Azerbaijani head of state.

The letter says: 'The establishment of diplomatic relations with fraternal Turkey on January 14, 1992 was a significant event in the history of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Turkey was the first to recognise Azerbaijan, which gained independence for the second time in the 20th century, and established diplomatic relations with it, which was forever imprinted in the national memory of our people as an example of true brotherhood and solidarity.

With a sense of great pride, I want to note that over the past period, Azerbaijani-Turkish relations have gone through a grandiose path of development. Coming out of historical trials with honour and head held high, our countries reaffirmed and maintained their adherence to the spirit of the slogan "One nation, two states."

Further, the congratulatory message says that the interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey, 'built on such a solid foundation as the unity, brotherhood and friendship of the two peoples passing from century to century, are today at the highest level. We are pleased as the mutually beneficial cooperation of our fraternal countries in the political economic, trade, cultural, energy, military, technological and other fields, as well as successful interaction within the framework of international institutions. The gigantic energy, transport, infrastructure projects we have implemented are a real celebration of our common initiatives and joint efforts. The incomparable successes we have achieved on the basis of bilateral cooperation, contribute to the progress of our countries, the well-being of the two peoples, and the establishment of calm and stability in our region.'

The head of the Azerbaijani state also noted the fact that 'the signing of the Declaration on allied relations last June in the city of Shusha, which is the ancient cultural centre of the entire Turkic world, was an important historical step, once again confirming our indestructible unity. Having determined the conceptual directions for the development of the Azerbaijani-Turkish ties, this document laid the foundation for a new stage that paves the way for our future joint success.'

Speaking about the merits of the President of Turkey in the development and strengthening of the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations, alliance, 'which are an excellent example of friendship and brotherhood, which have no analogue in the world,' the President of Azerbaijan stressed that 'the decisive and unambiguous position that you have always demonstrated in the issue of ensuring the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the confident support that you provided to our just cause, always inspired us and gave additional strength. The people of Azerbaijan will never forget the moral support and solidarity shown personally by you, the Republic of Turkey, your brotherly people from the first hours to the last minutes of the 44- Day Patriotic War. And today, shoulder to shoulder with Turkey, we are moving forward in the major reconstruction and restoration of the lands liberated from occupation, which causes deep satisfaction. We, in our turn, will always and in all matters continue to be close to fraternal Turkey.'

The head of the Azerbaijani state expresses confidence that 'the exemplary Azerbaijani-Turkish unity and brotherhood, which are the reality of today and the source of pride of our peoples, will remain for future generations as a strategic roadmap, as an eternal and indestructible heritage.'
