Ukraine's Zelenskyy: We have many plans with Ilham Aliyev

'The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Ukraine underlines the strategic partnership between the two states in the field of politics, economy and security.' This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with media representatives following the results of negotiations with Ilham Aliyev in Kyiv.

The head of the Ukrainian state noted that the parties discussed in detail all areas of existing cooperation and all the possibilities for its strengthening. The meeting resulted in six bilateral documents on cooperation, the implementation of which will simplify investment activities, enhance food and energy security and increase the volume of bilateral trade.

'We have many plans, which we discussed in detail with the President of Azerbaijan,' said Zelenskyy, noting that, despite the coronavirus pandemic, trade between the two countries not only did not decrease, but also reached record levels for the first time in seven years -- almost 1 billion US dollars.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stressed that this is not the limit, and today the countries have set themselves a new ambitious goal -- to increase the volume of bilateral trade by 2024.

'We also strive to increase the size of mutual investments and the number of large-scale projects. This is, in particular, the participation of Azerbaijani companies in the Great Construction program, as well as the participation of Ukrainian companies in infrastructure projects, in which the President of Azerbaijan invited Ukrainian business,' Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.

The Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine also agreed to hold a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in the first half of this year.

'The next step is to organise a meeting of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and Azerbaijan,' said the Ukrainian leader.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the development of transit potential and the creation of an appropriate infrastructure another urgent goal. 'We must intensify cooperation in the field of international road and rail transport, as well as in the field of aviation. We will continue to work together on a number of prospects, including the creation of a transport corridor within the framework of GUAM, uniting Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova,' said Zelenskyy.

The President of Ukraine thanked Ilham Aliyev and the entire delegation of Azerbaijan for the warm and constructive talks, which became significant on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. 'I am sure that the agreements that we have reached today are starting a new stage in our strategic, historical, very correct substantive cooperation,' Volodymyr Zelenskyy summed up.
