Arayik Harutyunyan: In the first days of the war, I realised that we would lose

The leader of the Armenian separatists of Nagorno-Karabakh Arayik Harutyunyan stated that the results of the war had been clear to him at the beginning of October 2020, but the political forces in Armenia could not reach a consensus on an early cessation of hostilities, Sputnik Armenia reports.

According to the information, Arayik Harutyunyan stated that in early October 2020 it had been clear to him that the war would end with the defeat of the Armenian side, but in those days, many political forces in Armenia considered the end of the war to be a betrayal.

In general, speaking about the main reasons for the defeat, Harutyunyan noted that after the May 1994 armistice, the military-political leadership of Armenia did not learn the necessary lessons from the world experience. According to him, having an advantage in the negotiations, the Armenian authorities then failed to achieve favourable decisions.

The head of the Armenian separatists also noted the need to further strengthen cooperation with Russia, drawing attention to the fact that 'Turkey is not going to leave this region.'
