Iran's Ambassador to Turkey: Tehran in favour of Erdogan and Aliyev initiative

Iran is in favour of the initiative of the Presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev, to create a 3+3 format to ensure peace and cooperation in the Caucasus. This is stated in an article by the Ambassador of Iran to Ankara, Mohammad Ferazmend for the Anadolu Agency.

According to Ferazmend, this initiative is also in line with the basic principles of Iran's foreign policy.

'The 3+3 initiative is in line with the fundamental principles of foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, namely: the solution of regional problems by the countries of the region, minimisation of conflict zones, the development of cooperation and the goal of creating a strong region through the synergy of the opportunities and capabilities of regional countries,' wrote the ambassador.

The diplomat noted that in 2020, during the Second Karabakh War, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs held contacts in Baku, Yerevan, Ankara and Moscow.

'The countries of the region, with the exception of Georgia, have accepted this initiative. There is a collective will, common interests and high-level understanding to implement the 3+3 or 3+2 initiative. Undoubtedly, the end of the 30-year conflict and the establishment of peace and stability, the emergence of opportunities for development, trade, investment and unhindered communication in the strategic region of the South Caucasus will benefit all regional countries. The main advantage of this initiative is that none of the countries in the region is ignored,' wrote Ferazmend.
